Vehicle Performance Metrics Glossary
Confused by terms like 'Trap Speed', 'Lateral G', or 'Braking Distance'? This glossary explains every major performance metric.
Quarter Mile ET
Elapsed Time. How long it takes to travel 1320 feet from a dig. Measures traction and launch capability more than power.
Trap Speed
Your speed at the finish line of a 1/4 mile. This is the truest indicator of average horsepower.
0-60 mph
The time to reach 60mph from a stop. Heavily dependent on traction and gearing.
0-100 mph
A better test of pure engine power and aerodynamics than 0-60, as traction limits are usually overcome by 60mph.
Lateral G-Force
Cornering force. Measured on a skidpad. Average cars do ~0.80g. Supercars do 1.10g+.
Braking Distance
Distance to stop from 60 or 70mph. <100ft from 60mph is considered world-class.
Nürburgring Lap
The 12.9-mile 'Green Hell' track. The global standard for total vehicle performance testing.
